A central Moscow hotel and private airport transfer planned around a visitor's daily routes

The short answer

Stay near Red Square or Tverskaya Street for a first sightseeing visit. Choose Moscow City when meetings, Expocentre or skyscraper offices are the priority. Belorusskaya is useful for Sheremetyevo connections. Zamoskvorechye offers a calmer central base. For a short trip, saving time on daily routes is usually worth more than saving a small amount on a distant hotel.

Hotel names, operators and payment methods can change. Book through the hotel's current official site or a trusted channel, and ask whether your foreign-issued card can be used before entering payment details.

Choose the area around the purpose of the trip

AreaGood forTransport consideration
Red Square, Okhotny Ryad and TeatralnayaFirst visit, museums, Bolshoi Theatre, central walksAirport transfer crosses busy central roads, but many sights are walkable
Tverskoy districtRestaurants, central meetings and metro accessA balanced base for mixed business and leisure days
Moscow City and Presnensky districtBusiness meetings, Expocentre and modern skylineConvenient for local offices, less convenient for repeated walks around the Kremlin
BelorusskayaSheremetyevo rail connection and north-central meetingsCheck the complete route to every office, not only the airport link
Zamoskvorechye and PaveletskayaQuieter central streets, galleries and access toward Domodedovo rail servicesRiver crossings and rush-hour traffic affect car journeys
Arbat and SmolenskayaPedestrian streets, restaurants and a central atmosphereHotel vehicle access can be less direct on pedestrian streets
Outside the Garden RingLonger stay, local neighbourhood or a specific officeLower room cost can create more travel time every day

Put all fixed places on a map before choosing the hotel: office, event venue, airport, train station and the sights you care about. The right hotel is the one that reduces your repeated journeys.

Historic centre: for a first Moscow visit

The area around Red Square, Teatralnaya and Okhotny Ryad gives the easiest walking access to the Kremlin area, Bolshoi Theatre, GUM, Zaryadye and central streets.

Two established examples are:

  • Hotel National, opposite the Kremlin and close to Red Square;
  • Hotel Metropol, near the Bolshoi Theatre, Red Square and the main central department stores.

These examples show the location advantage. They are not a ranking or a promise of availability. Compare room type, cancellation, breakfast, accessibility, payment method and vehicle access on your dates.

Choose the historic centre when you want to walk in the morning and use a car only for distant districts, business meetings or evening plans.

Tverskoy district: a balanced city base

Tverskoy stretches north from the central theatre and shopping area. It can work well for a visitor who wants restaurants, metro stations and access to several business districts.

The district covers a large area. A hotel near Teatralnaya feels very different from one near Novoslobodskaya. Check the exact address and nearest entrance rather than relying on the district name.

Novotel Moscow Centre is one current example farther north in the Tverskoy district. Its location may suit meetings outside the tourist core while keeping metro access to the centre.

Moscow City: for offices and events

Stay in Moscow City when your meetings are in the business district or at Expocentre. You reduce the daily uncertainty of crossing Moscow before a morning appointment.

Novotel Moscow City is a current example inside the district and close to Expocentre. Verify the exact tower, entrance and meeting address because the complex is large.

For leisure time, plan a car or metro journey to Red Square, the Tretyakov Gallery and other historic areas. If your schedule combines a morning meeting in Moscow City with evening events around the Kremlin, a car with driver can connect the programme without a new pickup search at every stop.

Belorusskaya: useful for Sheremetyevo planning

Belorusskaya can be convenient when the Sheremetyevo rail connection is part of the plan. It also gives access to Tverskaya Street and northern business areas.

Do not choose it for the airport link alone if every meeting is far away. Compare the total daily commute. A pre-booked airport car may make a different central district equally practical.

Zamoskvorechye and Paveletskaya: calmer central Moscow

Zamoskvorechye sits south of the river and includes older streets, restaurants and access toward the Tretyakov Gallery. It can feel calmer than the busiest streets immediately around Red Square.

Paveletskaya is useful when your programme includes the south of Moscow or the rail route toward Domodedovo. As elsewhere, check current train schedules and the final connection to the hotel.

This area suits travellers who want a central location without spending every evening in the most crowded tourist streets.

What to ask the hotel before booking

Send the same questions to every candidate:

  • Can you accept my card issued in [country] on [network]?
  • Can I pay on arrival in rubles?
  • Will you send a written booking confirmation without charging the unsupported card?
  • Do you handle the required registration for foreign guests?
  • Is reception staffed when my flight arrives?
  • Can a driver meet me in the lobby?
  • Is there a safe vehicle pickup point at the main entrance?
  • Can you store luggage before check-in or after check-out?
  • Is breakfast available before my first meeting?
  • Which entrance should I use for a minivan or group vehicle?

Do not send passport scans or card details through an unverified messenger account. Use the contact information published on the hotel's official website.

Match the airport transfer to the hotel

The hotel's district affects the last part of the arrival:

  • central pedestrian or restricted streets need a precise vehicle entrance;
  • Moscow City hotels may have tower-specific drop-off points;
  • large hotels can have separate main, conference and underground entrances;
  • an apartment address may be harder for a driver to identify than a hotel lobby;
  • groups need a place where a minibus can stop safely.

Send the full hotel name and address to the transport company. A map pin alone is not enough when several buildings share a complex.

When keeping a driver helps

A central hotel makes walking easy, but a car is useful when the day combines distant places. Examples include:

  • hotel, office and evening event;
  • Moscow City, Red Square and a restaurant across town;
  • a hotel change with luggage;
  • family sightseeing with child seats;
  • several executives staying at different hotels;
  • a day trip followed by an airport departure.

Frequently asked questions

Which part of Moscow is convenient for a first-time tourist?

The historic centre around Red Square, Teatralnaya and Tverskaya is the simplest starting point. Many major sights are walkable.

Where should a business traveller stay in Moscow?

Choose the area closest to the meetings that cannot move. Moscow City suits offices and events in that district. Tverskoy is a balanced base for meetings across central Moscow.

Is it better to stay near the airport?

Only when you have a very short connection or an early departure and little city programme. For a multi-day visit, daily travel from an airport hotel can cost more time than one airport transfer.

Can a foreign card pay for a Moscow hotel?

Foreign-issued Visa and Mastercard cards do not work in Russia. Some hotels may offer other confirmed arrangements. Ask the hotel directly before booking.

Can TSA Transfer recommend or book a hotel?

TSA's core service is transport. The team can help you compare the transport implications of an address and arrange pickup. Hotel availability, room terms and payment remain subject to the hotel's confirmation.

Send the hotel address with the travel programme

Once you choose the area, send TSA Transfer the exact hotel, flight and daily schedule. The team can arrange the airport pickup, recommend the right vehicle size and prepare a car with driver for days with several stops.
